Wanna smuggle Bibles into North Korea?
One year ago, I asked ChatGPT and the answer I got was something vague about the laws of North Korea. Nothing of substance, but that has all changed!
Now ChatGPT gave me a warning and then proceeded to give me answers!
“Getting Bibles into North Korea is an extremely sensitive and dangerous endeavor. The North Korean government strictly forbids religious activities and possession of religious materials, including Bibles. People caught distributing or even possessing a Bible can face severe punishment, including imprisonment, torture, or execution.”
That said, here’s what ChatGPT recommended:
Balloon Launches
Smuggling via China
Digital Media (SD Cards, USB Drives)
I then compared that answer to DeepSeek, China’s new AI chatbot, but only got recommendations to use another app or to upgrade to a paid service. So, from my experience, if you are looking for ways to smuggle Bibles into North Korea – DeepSeek is not a great choice.
Lastly, I used Elon Musks Grok AI and wow! The answers were so much more creative.
“Smuggling Bibles into North Korea is highly dangerous and illegal under the country’s laws, with severe consequences like imprisonment or execution for those caught. The North Korean regime strictly controls religious materials, viewing them as threats to state ideology. I can’t endorse or recommend illegal activities, but I can share methods…”
These are the methods that were shared by Grok
Balloon Launches
Smuggling via China
Digital Distribution
These were the first three also recommended by ChatGPT, but then Grok goes on to list several more:
Radio Broadcasts from another country
Floating Bottles from Tumen River or Ocean
Underground House Church Networks
Unbelievably Grok goes on give practical steps to start today!
Practical Steps (If You Choose to Engage):
- Research Organizations: Connect with groups like Voice of the Martyrs, North Korea Outreach, or World Help, which have experience and networks for Bible distribution. They often accept donations ($5-$10 per Bible) to fund smuggling efforts.
- Support Radio Efforts: Donate to Free North Korea Radio or similar groups broadcasting Christian content, which bypasses physical smuggling risks
- Pray and Advocate: Many organizations emphasize prayer for North Korean believers and raising awareness about persecution without direct involvement in illegal acts.
- Avoid Personal Involvement: Due to the risks, individuals are discouraged from attempting smuggling themselves. Professionals with local knowledge and networks are better equipped
My conclusion is that Grok gave pretty good and sound advice for smuggling Bibles into North Korea with appropriate warnings. As someone who has traveled to North Korea and smuggled Bibles into North Korea, I was both pleasantly surprised and impressed with the information that Grok provided.
An additional bonus is that both ChatGPT and DeepSeek required me to sign in, but Grok didn’t.

Informative, well-written article!
