A Non-Christian Book That Delivers the Best Sermon You Have Ever Read

Are you looking for something to read this summer, but secretly not able to read another Christian self-help book?

Shhh… I know it is not a very Christian thing to say, but let me recommend a book that took me completely by surprise. It was a book that I was required to read at school, but didn’t. I lied and told my teacher that I read it.  Now, 30 years later, I am learning that I missed out on one of the most epic adventure books ever written.

I picked up this book written in 1851, because I heard about it on a Joe Rogan Podcast, and though it is not a Christian book, I found that it secretly has the most epic sermon on the story of Jonah in the Bible I have ever read in my life.

The book is Moby-Dick: an exciting narrative of the maniacal quest of Captain Ahab and a notorious giant white sperm wale.

When the book was released it was a commercial failure, selling very few copies during the life of the author, but was later re-discovered and since has been called “one of the strangest and most wonderful books in the world” and “the greatest book of the sea ever written.”

Even if you do not read the book, get inspired by the sermon on the book of Jonah by simply reading chapters 8 and 9.
