Testimony: Little Girl Rescued in Afghanistan Sends a Letter

Many of you may remember the story from September last year of the little girl in Afghanistan who had been sold as a ‘bride’ to a much older man. Since the Taliban took power, we have heard many stories of parents selling their little girls as child ‘brides’ to older men, just so they could feed the rest of their other children a little longer. In September 2024, a heartbroken mother, whose husband had been killed, came to know Jesus Christ, and a rare opportunity presented itself to bring her little girl, sold as a toddler, back to her mother.

Just 24 hours after asking our BTJ friends for help financing this rescue, we had to ask people to stop giving. Enough was raised and more to undertake this risky operation. People even held prayer meetings to plead with God for her safety and the safety of all involved. This is not something we do regularly, and for good reasons. But this time, it seemed this little girl was placed in our path.

Nothing about this operation was straight forward. But God helped the people involved and we were able to see the girl reunited with her mother. Both mother and daughter carry the deep trauma of separation and abuse.

Although the emotional challenges this little reunited family faces are huge, we have reason to hope. We received a note recently to say they are all doing well. She drew the picture below which shows her, her brother her mother and her late father with a halo over his head.

She also wrote in a letter: “I am very happy that I am back near my mother and brother. Now I am gong to school happily. I thank God and your people everyday for bringing me back to my family. God bless you. I love you.” Praise God for this reunited family and the mother’s recent salvation. We pray this small family will be used to bring the Hope of Christ to many more in Afghanistan.

  1. I can’t imagine the trauma women in particular are facing there now.

Thank you for coming to this families aid as you did and intercepting for this child. God bless your people and all who gave to make it happen.
