Echoes of faithful obedience can still be heard over a century after the first missionaries sacrificed their lives in education and discipleship in Fujian Province, China.
Gordon Trimble and his wife Sonia recently journeyed to Putian No. 2 Middle School in Fujian to walk in the footsteps of Gordon’s great-uncle, Fred Trimble, and great-aunt, Lydia Trimble. Gordon and Sonia were moved to visit the school where Fred Trimble taught as one of a pioneering group of missionary-educators who planted the seeds of faith which have now flowered across the generations among teachers and students of the school.
Their journey was an opportunity to recognize God at work in the present, through the legacy of these two missionary educators, whose lives of sacrificial obedience are still bearing fruit. They met with school leaders, young students, and teachers who are part of the school’s history and legacy, where God was again confirming that the Gospel is generational, and that seeds of faith planted in times of immense sacrifice are still growing and maturing.
This was an encouraging reminder of God’s faithfulness, in light of the recent challenges to the Church in China.
