North Korea to Reopen to Tourists Again

After almost five long years, North Korea looks set to reopen to foreign tourist again – maybe.

North Korea has been set to reopen several times since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, but each time they have found a reason not to.

Two Chinese travel agencies announced on Wednesday that they will again restart their tours in December of this year to the northern city of Samjiyon. Though December is not the most ideal time to travel to North Korea, because of the bitter winter, there are many Chinese who have been desperate to get back inside for several years now.

North Korea was one of the first nations in the world to close their borders with China at the start of the pandemic in early 2020 and has yet to open their border again.

Not only has North Korea been cut off from foreign travelers, but they sealed their border, cutting them off from essential goods, exacerbating their lack of access to food.

Several BTJ missionaries are waiting for the green light to return to North Korea.
