If you are shopping with Temu – the Chinese shopping app – you might want to reconsider.
Many experts allege that it is a dangerous phone application from China which can essentially take over your phone, doing things without your permission.
According to a recent lawsuit that was launched in the US, Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin has alleged that Temu is “dangerous malware” that is secretly monetizing a broad swath of unauthorized user data.
Temu has been the most downloaded application in the US, even beating TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram downloads. Temu offers unbeatable discounts on a slew of products, mostly shipped directly from Chinese factories or warehouses, but those good deals come at a high price.
Attorney General Griffin’s suit uses extensive forensic evidence and allege that PDD Holdings, the parent company for Temu is a fraudulent company and that Temu is a cleverly hidden spyware that poses an urgent security threat to United States national interests.
Their research alleges that when you download Temu, you give it unrestricted access to your phone’s operating system, including, but not limited to, your camera, location, contacts, text messages, documents, and other applications.
BTJ hosts a Hackers Conference every year to learn from experts in the industry and their advice to missionaries serving in China is “do not download Temu.”
If you have already downloaded the app, they recommend deleting it and consider doing a clean factory reset on your phone.
