Are you a Christian worried about the amount of time your child is spending online playing video games? Well, a Father in China might have found an extremely unique solution to your problem.
A father by name of Mr. Xiao Feng, hired a virtual “assassin” to hunt down his son in online video games and kill off his avatar, with the hopes that he would get tired of getting killed all the time and just give up being on line.
According to Chinese media, Mr. Feng hired another gamer to wait for his son to log onto any game and kill him immediately, ending his games before they even start.
Unfortunately, it didn’t seem to work. When the son learned what his father was doing, he told his father that he was still “not looking for any job.”
So for Christians that are looking for ways to solve their children’s addiction to video games, it appears that this intervention didn’t work, but it might work to put their hobby to work.
For the first time ever, BTJ is offering a chance for gamers to join us for the summer at our covert lab somewhere in Europe for hands-on experience producing secret Bibles.
Gamers can use those nimble fingers for something other than playing video games – assembling bibles.
You see, we have a challenge. The demand for small batches of electronic Bibles in different shapes and size is outpacing our ability to produce them. Some of them have to be individually handmade, which takes up a lot of time. That is why we are inviting two computer minded people, like the kind that enjoy online video games, to join us for two weeks this summer. Either two boys, two girls or a married couple.
What do we offer?
We are offering a once in a life time opportunity to take a break from playing video games and make a tangible contribution to electronic Bible production.
You will get on the job training from our BTJ engineer.
You will get living room lectures on mission related topics and the BTJ movement from a missiologist with 20 years of experience.
Be hosted by locals.
In your free time explore the surrounding historical towns and countryside.
We offer basic accommodation on site (you will share your room with the other candidate), and all meals (European and Asian style) are included. This means you only pay for flights and your travel insurance.
We will pick you up from the airport and take you back.
You get to share your time and meals with a missionary family who is excited to have you!
What do we ask?
We ask that you do not post online or on social media about your reason for travelling or any post any pictures or information about what you are doing. You can post your tourist selfies and tell your friends privately what you are up to and of course ask them to pray.
Applicants have to be computer literate and enjoy hands-on tech stuff. You will need good fine motor skills as you work with small parts. You need to be excited about getting Bibles in closed countries and about working with Christians who may have different ways of living and thinking from what you are used to. You have to be willing to be flexible in case things work out a little different from what you expect.
There will not be much privacy, but if you need a break you can escape for a peaceful walk outside or to a little café within easy walking distance.
You need to be able to tolerate cats, although you do not need to like them!
Key words are informal, a little crazy and work as a family.
Please send an application letter to fieldoperator@backtojerusalem.com detailing why you would like to do this, and include two references, one from a Christian friend and one from a leader of your church who knows you well. Applications will be processed in June. The dates for living and working in the BTJ lab will be from July 21 – August 4.
