It is now confirmed that the coronavirus is indeed in North Korea.
According to a report by the Daily NK, A North Korean attempting to escape into China was shot by Chinese border guards last week. Immediately, the North Korean was taken to Longjing People’s Hospital where he was treated for the wound.
It was then that the doctors discovered that the North Korean tested positive for the coronavirus. The Longjing People’s Hospital is now on lock-down and all access has been restricted.
The coronavirus is disastrous for North Korea. North Korea is struggling with a broken healthcare system that is unable to care for their highest officials, let alone the common person suffering from the coronavirus. On Thursday, doctors had to be called in from China to care for the Dear Leader Kim Jong Un as he reportedly has been fighting for his life. The North Korean doctors needed outside help from China.
In addition to lack of medical professionals in North Korea, the nation has also been affected by lack of food, chronic malnutrition, lack of basic medications, and limited access to clean water.
The coronavirus has been difficult for first world nations to deal with. In North Korea it is bound to be catastrophic.
Earlier this month, North Korean defector Kim Myong said COVID-19 could kill as many people as the four-year famine. Writing for the US-based Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, Mr Kim dismissed Pyongyang’s claims as propaganda and “absurd lies” and said, “it would be no exaggeration to state that North Korea is far more vulnerable to COVID-19 than any other country in the world.”
Back to Jerusalem missionaries continue to serve in North Korea and support the underground house church. The nation of North Korea needs more prayer than ever before as they face a very uncertain future.
