An Open Door for Chinese Missionaries in Tajikistan?

The Confucius Institute at Tajik National University (TNU) organized a scholarship recognition event with Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship recipients present on October 30, along with representatives from Chinas Embassy in Dushanbe. Attendees at the event included Ji Shumin from China’s Embassy in Tajikistan, as well as TNU’s Rector Emomali Nasriddinzoda alongside different educational leaders and students.

A little while ago BTJ had a meeting with our partners in Tajikistan. During this gathering between BTJ representatives and our partners in Tajikistan, our partners brought this influence to our attention. Many may say that this is a joyous reflection of how China is bringing broader cultural collaboration to the region. However, this could also be seen as China broadening its influence in Central Asian Muslim nations and trying to increase oppression and communist propaganda.

Due to the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative, Tajik schools now require Chinese language study. This initiative ensures China’s continued presence in the region. By requiring that Tajik students acquire the Chinese language, stronger cultural and linguistic connections will grow. While many patriots view this as unfavorable for America, Christians should be excited that Chinese Christians can access Muslim-dominated “closed” nations through the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative and its operations.

As Muslim-dominated countries increasingly require Chinese connections and partnerships, more Chinese will be needed to teach and operate businesses. Chinese teachers will be required to teach. Similar to how English language teachers supported Christian missionaries, Christian Chinese teachers and businesses will have a successful strategy to access these closed” Muslim-dominated regions.
