A Racist Gospel?

We are a light for the world!
In Matthew 5:16-17, Jesus tells His followers that they are a light of the world and cannot be hidden; a reference that most of those listening understood as a reference to the eternal flame described in Exodus 25:31-39 and 37:17-24. Knowledge of this imagery conveys a much deeper meaning, as it symbolizes not only the practical purpose of lighting up a home or a holy place, but also the life God grants His followers. After all, we are temples of our Heavenly Father.
We explore this idea while in Ethiopia, however, there seems to be a lack of something in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Do we, as believers, fall into the same trap and hide our light, seeing our country or church building as a second promised land?
