The Paris 2024 Olympic Games concluded on Sunday, with China tying with the US for the most gold medals. This is China’s best overseas Olympic performance in history and shows that China is a growing force, but their wins were not without controversies.
The top gold winners were covered in a slew of doping allegations, especially for the category of swimming. The World Anti-Doping Agency and World Aquatics acknowledged that 23 Chinese swimmers tested positive for drugs ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, but the results were not made public until it was leaked to the media this year. Both bodies accepted the Communist Party’s explanation that the positive tests were caused by tainted hamburgers.
Earlier this years, a four-part documentary “The China File” was released, suggesting a massive cover-up for doping in China on a scale not seen since Russia.
Though it is not uncommon for individuals from every nation to get caught cheating, it is difficult for people to understand entire nations secretly supporting a system of cheating. However, the truth is that cheating on a national level has a long history in Communist nations. China is not alone. Russia, Cuba, the former eastern block – they have all been known for openly supporting cheating when competing in the Olympic games.
The reason why entire nations like China can cheat at the Olympics is the same reason why they can tell the entire world that Christians have freedom of religion when they don’t. China’s system of morality is based on atheism and atheism cannot provide an ultimate basis for morality other than the survival of the fittest.
China’s system of morality today is primarily based on a Christian set of morals because countries with Christian-Judaic values are currently the ones with the most military strength and most economic power. A system like China, based on the idea of evolution, cannot produce a system of ethics other than that which helps a given species advance. If lying helps advancement, then, logically, one can conclude that it is allowable.
Christians in China deal with this system every day. China’s constitution mimics western constitutions by promising protection for religious freedom, but the written law in China has no power when used as the basis by Christians who wish to practice their faith. Chinese courts violate the written law every day and legally there is nothing Christians can do.
Though westerners might be perplexed when seeing an entire nation create a system designed to cheat at the Olympics, for Chinese Christians who have been living in the system of double standards for their entires lives, it is no surprise at all. The difference is, the stakes at the Olympics is winning or losing. For Christians in China, it is life and death.
