How a Mother of Four Survived Death Row

Shagufta Kausar is a Pakistani Christian who was sentenced to death by hanging when she was falsely accused of sending an unfavorable text about Islam.

She and her husband were violently arrested and interrogated. Her disabled husband was hung upside down and beaten, her children were terrorized, and she was threatened with being marched through the streets naked and lynched – all based on unprovable charges of one single phone text about the Prophet Muhammad.

Shagufta spent eight years on death row, waiting to be hung for her faith, but she never lost her faith in Christ.

“All you have to do is convert to Islam,” the guard said to Shagufta after she was arrested for blasphemy against Islam. “The only way to survive is to accept Islam,” he said again.

All Shagufta had to do to escape her death sentence was to deny Christ and accept Islam, but she refused and what happened next was a miracle.

The entire story can be found in BTJ’S newest book UNDER THREAT OF DEATH – A Mother’s Faith in the Face of Injustice, Imprisonment, and Persecution, available on our website and on Amazon.

  1. The faith of those being martyred across this world is inspiring, but even more convicting to me. What little I suffer, if at all, here in America. Yet for so many years I didn’t even spend time in the word, OR think about my Lord. I am so thankful he has drawn me closer and opened my eyes to the truth in His word. I am blessed beyond measure just because I have a Bible!
