Christians around the world were devastated to learn about the assassination of conservative speaker Charlie Kirk this week, but few places were hit as hard as Korea.
Less than two weeks ago, tens of thousands of young Koreans attended or viewed on line a conference called ‘Build Up Korea 2025.’ It was a massive two day event on September 5th and 6th to discuss freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and national leadership. Charlie Kirk was one of their featured speakers.
It was Charlie Kirk’s first trip to South Korea and it turned out to be his last. It also turned out to be his last speech.
South Korea is one of the most thriving Christian nations in Asia today, boasting the largest church in the world.
Only days before his death, Charlie Kirk took to the stage in South Korea where thousands in the auditorium were led in a powerful prayer over his life saying, “Everyone, let’s pray for Charlie here today, that God will protect him to the end and use him to expand God’s Kingdom until the end.” The entire audience then bowed their head in silence and prayed over him in their own way while worship music played in the background. Many stretched out their hands and prayed for him.
Here is his speech in full after the prayer
Hours after the announcement of Charlie’s death, thousands of young Koreans took to the streets to honor Charlie Kirk. Many young Koreans drew parallels between Kirk’s Christian beliefs and the ones their forefathers held in Korea that saved them from the death pit of Communism experienced by those in the North.
A small memorial was also erected in South Korea honoring Charlie Kirk and mourning the loss of his life.
