A Rare Peek Inside a Secret Baptism Room Along Border of Afghanistan

In the backroom of a BTJ missionary training center near the border of Afghanistan is a secret door that leads to a special baptism tank that was built specifically for baptizing new believers.

“My brother was baptized here,” Esther (not her real name) says, proudly introducing the secret baptism room. “He is now helping Chinese missionaries reach Muslims.”

Esther is Chinese and has been working for BTJ for more than 20 years. Her brother is a businessman from China, but was not a Christian until he moved to the Muslim region of central Asia where he met BTJ missionaries who preached the Gospel to him and baptized him.

“I had to move to a Muslim country to find Jesus,” Esther’s brother shares with a smile while introducing us to the training center.

We spent the week traveling along the border of Afghanistan preaching at different businesses run by BTJ missionaries. BTJ missionaries have spread out all over Central Asia, spreading the Good News and baptizing new believers.

Conversion is illegal in Central Asia with nations like Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan having the most strict laws, however BTJ missionaries are risking their lives to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Our prayer is that this new baptism room will be the testimony of many new believers like Esther’s brother.
