Christmas in Tibet

Over a decade ago, BTJ supported several Han Chinese missionaries who were taking aid in the form of Christmas gifts to a poor village in Tibet. At the time, there were no Christians in the area and the villagers had never heard of Jesus or Christmas. The area was 100% Tibetan Buddhist and all of the villagers were extremely violent towards outsiders – especially Han Chinese.

Today, things have changed. The Tibetans have grown to love the BTJ missionaries and every year they celebrate the birth of Christ during Christmas.  The picture above shows one of the BTJ missionaries handing out gifts to the children of a Tibetan village.  Hundreds of children lined up and were each handed gifts.  They each received insulated under-clothing to help keep them warm during the winter, as well as a bag full of candy.

The children were then gathered together and told the story of the birth of Jesus Christ and how God sent His Son to save mankind.

“We have seen so many people come to Christ,” a Chinese pastor partnered with BTJ wrote on Christmas day. “We were able to hand out gifts to all of the children and lead the village leader in prayer!”

The pastor sent a video of villagers praying together inside the home of the one of the village leaders. For security reasons, the video cannot be shared.

The missionaries have asked for BTJ partners to continue praying for Tibet. Tibet is a dark stronghold of Buddhism and has very few Christians.
