Nigeria is one of the most dangerous areas in the world to be a Christian. An average of 32 Christians are killed in Nigeria every day. That is one Christian every 45 minutes.
However, something amazing is happening! Islamic fighters are leaving their weapons and coming to Christ in large numbers. Africa’s most deadly Muslim terrorists, who have been killing thousands of Christians every year, are being baptized and leading house churches in Nigeria. The Muslims who convert to Christianity are showing an open act of defiance, even though this can lead to death. Muslims in Nigeria who become Christians are literally signing their death warrant, but that is not stopping them.
In a rare video shared on the Back to Jerusalem website, a former Muslim fighter can be seen leading a house church of local believers and running a Sunday School! He is not alone. In the last six months, more and more videos of former Islamic terrorists can be seen boldly sharing the Gospel message with fellow believers in house churches.
Another young Nigerian man named Dawo had the same transformation. He was born into a strict Muslim family, but found Jesus in a dream and decided to follow Him. When his family found out, they threatened to kill him. His cousin burned his Bible and kicked him out of the house. When the locals heard that he was a Christian, a local crowd of angry young Muslims surrounded him, tackled him to the ground, tied his hands and feet behind his back and beat him.
Dawo was ready to die for his faith.
Just as one of the men placed a knife to Dawo’s throat, a police officer pulled up and the crowd scattered. The police officer was also a Christian! After the police cut him loose, Dawo immediately went about preaching the Gospel to the Fulani tribal members. It seems that there is something happening among the extremist Muslim tribes in Nigeria right now.
BTJ has been praying for the Christians in Nigeria which is why at the end of last year, we launched CHRISTMAS IN NIGERIA, which was a program that specifically helped believers during Christmas – the most deadly time of the year. We believe these conversions are a direct answer to prayer.
