What Christian Missionaries Can Learn from the Massacre in Sydney Yesterday

A deadly shooting took place yesterday as two Muslims hunted for Jews during a “Hanukkah by the Sea” public event on Sydney’s Bondi Beach. In a massacre that has become all-too familiar for both Jews and Christians during special holy days, there is something that Christian missionaries can learn from the tragedy.

At around 7pm local time last night, a Muslim man and his son stepped out of their vehicle on Campbell Parade, and over the course of roughly 10 minutes, the two men coldly fired around 50 bullets targeting Jewish families who were gathered for a Chanukah celebration, killing several people including small children.

Though some see this massacre as an isolated tragic accident, the truth is more sinister than many want to accept. The fact is, violence against Jews in the west has been increasing as a direct result of the rise of Islam in the last decade. Prior to the shooting, Sydney saw a significant wave of aggressive Islamic sentiment against Christians and Jews. In one instance prior to the shooting, pro-Palestinian Muslims protested just down the street from Bondi Beach at the Sydney Opera House shouting, “Gas the Jews.”

As the number of Muslims welcomed into Christian countries continues to grow, the number of Jews and Christians living in Muslim nations are forced to flee in mass. In nations like Iraq, Iran, and Syria, where Christian and Jewish communities historically made up a massive portion of the population, today they are almost non-existent. In contrast, in Christian nations where few Muslims can be found, now entire communities are implementing Sharia Law.

Lebanon is one of the best historical examples of the change that Christian countries are seeing in the west. After 1945, Lebanon was a nation carved out for Christians to have a safe haven in the Middle East. As a Christian majority nation, Lebanon launched some of the world’s best universities and had a thriving economy and the capital city of Beirut was known as the “Paris of the Middle East.” Eventually, the Christians of Lebanon invited many nearby Muslims to escape war-torn areas and persecution to live in their nation, only to eventually be toppled from power, massacred, persecuted and chased out.

What took place in Lebanon is now taking place in Nigeria where Christian farmers have been ordered by the government to share their land with Muslims herders who are desperate for food and water for their flocks. As the Islamic population has grown, Christians are targeted, slaughtered by the tens of thousands, and their lands being completely overtaken. Any Christians who attempt to remain, face extreme persecution.

Just as the Muslims specifically targeted Jews during the “Hanukkah by the Sea” public event on Sydney’s Bondi Beach yesterday, Fulani Islamic tribesmen target Nigerian Christians during Christmas and Easter, because that is when believers gather together and massacres can be maximized.

Unfortunately, Muslims have no choice but to follow the teachings of their Prophet. Unlike Jesus, the Prophet Muhammad was a brutal war lord who killed his enemies, raped women (including little girls), enslaved children, and commanded his followers to do the same.

In Surah 2:191, the Quran clearly teaches what to do to the Christian and Jew when it says, “Kill them wherever you come upon them and drive them out of the places from which they have driven you out.”

Though the knee-jerk reaction might be to stop all Islamic immigration, the war cry of the Christians is contrary to the darkness of Islam. In Mark 16:15 Jesus made His commands to His disciples very clear when he said, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”

While Islam teaches a message of death, Jesus gave His followers a message of Life. Though Muslims are taught to kill unbelievers, Jesus commanded His followers to give their lives in an effort to save them.  Though Islam teachings a message of hate, Jesus taught a message of love.

Islamic nations are ripe for a renewed wave of Christian missionaries who are willing to give their lives to preach the Good News and a new generation of believers is rising up to take the Gospel message into the heart of the most violent Islamic territories.  The harvest is ripe and now is the time to go!
