Update on Chinese Pastor on Trial for His Life

Pastor Huang Yizi went on trial for his life in China on April 24, 2026 as of today, the results are still unclear.

Pastor Huang Yizi has been sitting in prison for almost a year awaiting trial for distributing audio Bibles in China. He was arrested along with four other believers in the city of Wenzhou and has been held in the Pingyang County Detention Center.

The Chinese Communist Party has been pushing a hard agenda through the official church of China, known as the ‘Three-self Patriotic Church’, but Pastor Huang Yizi was not aligned with the government program. His preaching and teachings were not controlled or directly influenced by the government.

It has been over a week since Pastor Huang’s trial date and there is still no verdict. Chinese court cases involving sensitive religious rights issues often have delayed announcements of verdicts because of the way it is viewed by the international community. China often tries to hide the results.

Huang has been denied regular access to his family and lawyers. As of today, there hasn’t been any updates from the courts or his family. Pastor Huang’s court case was held before the Pingyang County People’s Court in Wenzhou and they have yet to report the case to the public.

This is not Pastor Huang’s first time being imprisoned. Huang Yizi previously served in a state-sanctioned church, but in 2014 when the government launched a persecution campaign against Christians which included the forceful removal of crosses from church buildings, he began a prayer campaign. In 2015, Pastor Huang was sentenced to one year in prison for “gathering a crowd to disrupt social order,” after he was found praying for Christians being persecuted.

Please continue to pray for Pastor Huang and his family.
