The Iranian church lost a hero yesterday when one of its most loved leaders passed away after medical complications. Reverend Dr. Edward Hovsepian-Mehr passed away yesterday morning on Friday, June 26, 2026.
In a statement from his Iranian Church in North London, it was noted that the global Church has lost a father whose role in the formation, growth, and establishment of the Persian-speaking Church will forever remain a part of church history.
Brother Edward, as he was affectionately known by many of his friends, played a pivotable role in the lives of two biographies that we have written – Naghmeh Panahi (I DIDN’T SURVIVE) and Brother Abdull (JIHAD: THE DAY I DIED).
“He was a spiritual giant,” Naghmeh Panahi wrote about him in a private message. “He finished the race well. He supported me and my mom after my dad died. He called us and checked up on us and shared scripture with us. He and his daughter Rosita walked next to us and comforted us in the darkest times.”
Naghmeh used to be the Sunday School leader for Brother Edward’s son when she was a missionary in Iran. “I met [Brother Edward] and his family when I first went to Iran,” she remembers. His wife had just died of cancer.
Edward is the younger brother to well known Brother Haik, a Christian martyr who was murdered for his faith in Iran.

He was a teacher Pastor husband friend above all he was a father to so many people I wish all a young believer and Pastor, they can learn from him. His heart was so close to the Godfather.
he is More alive there in heaven than here. the Lord be with the families.
