The Letters of a Portuguese Nun (eBook)(Free)

The Letters of a Portuguese Nun by Marianna Alcoforado

The Letters of a Portuguese Nun (Les Lettres Portugaises) were discovered and first published anonymously in Paris, in 1669. The letters were penned by a 17th Century nun to an officer in the French Army and are perhaps one of the most powerful displays of human emotion to ever be splashed across a page.

Though monastic chroniclers attempt to hide all traces of the letters by attributing them to the fictional writings of a politician, the truth of the unabashed heartbreak of a simple nun continues to echo throughout the ages.
