Pastor Reports at Least 100 Muslim Converts Baptized in Afghanistan So Far This Year

Five years after the Taliban took over Afghanistan, there was an intense effort to eradicate all Christians. Not only have those efforts failed, but it seems that the church is actually growing under the control of the Taliban!

“We have baptized more than 100 Afghans so far,” reports one of the Chinese mission leaders for Afghanistan. A team of Chinese missionaries have been working and serving in Afghanistan for several years and they are reporting that they have never seen as many people come to Christ as they have since the takeover of the Taliban.

Since the Taliban took control in August 2021, Christians around the world braced for the worst, believing that the best option for Christians was to flee the country and settle in the west. However, BTJ missionaries from China, Iran, and other nations began to move in.

As expected, Christian persecution immediately followed in Afghanistan. The Taliban set about enforcing a strict interpretation of Sharia law, under which converting from Islam to Christianity is punishable by death. They began kicking in the doors of suspected Christian homes and hunting down anyone suspected of being a Christian.

Reports surfaced of Christians being arrested, tortured, and executed, but that has not stopped the growth of the church.

The 100 new Muslim converts are only a fraction of the new believers that we have seen come to Christ in Afghanistan this year. Our prayer is that there will be more.
