In the open fields of northern England sits the historical campus of Mattersey Hall, a training center that has been used for decades to train ministry leaders for the mission field. Today Mattersey Hall has a slightly different and completely unorthodox mission. Unlike any other institution in the world, Mattersey Hall uses BTJ’s Chasing Revival Series curriculum to help former drug addicts to recover from their addiction by redirecting their lives towards serving Christ.
Yesterday, BTJ attended chapel services with Pastor Darren Jones, the program leader at Mattersey Hall recovery centre. “We now have about 60 students here,” Pastor Darren shared. “They are recovering from addiction, homelessness, and finding a home here [Mattersey Hall].”
BTJ’s Chasing Revival series is a nine part devotional and video series that is the only Bible study in the world that shows how the Gospel message started in Jerusalem and traveled around the world over the generations to where it is now in Asia with the world’s largest revival (China) and the world’s largest church (South Korea). The men and women at Mattersey Hall use BTJ’s Chasing Revival series to help train and equip for key skills and spiritual development for street ministry and a life of dedicated personal ministry.
For so many people who have found themselves in prison, Mattersey Hall provides a way out and points to a life of purpose.
Yesterday, the BTJ UK team spent the day sharing about how the purpose of God transcends the world’s understanding and how God can use our failures to bring about His glory. The Chasing Revival series program fits perfectly in the rehabilitation program of Mattersey Hall because it clearly shows how the history of world revival is built on the weakness of men in the hands of a powerful God.
