New Bridge from China to Help Missionaries to North Korea

North Korea is about to open a brand new bridge to China that will open up new opportunities for missionaries.

The Yalu Bridge project to connect China and North Korea from the city of Dandong, China, was started over 15 years ago. Construction began in 2011 and was completed in 2014, but never opened. China built a brand new customs building at the bridge, but it never opened. Work on the North Korean side began in 2020, but then COVID hit and delayed the opening of the Friendship Bridge even more.

The bridge between the two nations seemed as if it might never fully open, but this summer, construction on the North Korean side picked up and now it seems it might be ready to open. The opening of the bridge could not come a day too soon, as the border crossing from the current crossing location near Tumen, China, is currently suffering from flash floods that hit last week.

10 people have been reportedly killed by the floods and thousands of people have lost their homes. Much of the railway system linking China and North Korea were also damaged in the floods. Thousands of acres of crops have been destroyed meaning that, unless North Korea does something drastic, many people will starve this winter.
