Is the American Church Losing Its Call for Missions?

For over 100 years, the USA has sent more missionaries into the world to preach the Gospel than any other country, but could those days be coming to an end?

BTJ recently did a podcast together with Dr. George Barna, director of research at the Cultural Research Center at the Arizona Christian University, and his research found that only 2% of millennials have a Biblical world view.

This is shocking!

This is extremely troubling for the future of the church in America. Not only does a Biblical world view significantly impact ideas on morals, laws, and social ethics, but a Biblical world view also impacts the desire for missions.

Christians that do not have a world view shaped by the Bible do not see a need to share their faith with others. This is a disaster in the making.

Dr. Tracy Munsil, the Executive Director of the Cultural Research Center with Dr. Barna, says that it might be difficult for America to turn from this trajectory if it does not make changes now. She explains in more detail:

“Unless America experiences a steady increase in people reflecting a biblical worldview in their lives, America’s future is more likely to resemble that of nations characterized by moral and behavioral chaos … It took roughly half a century for America to lose its Christian moorings, and it will take at least that long to restore them. There needs to be a sense of urgency about initiating that recovery immediately. The longer we wait, the harder it will be to successfully reintroduce biblical truth to a doubting population.”

In China, things are looking different. Chinese Christians have been persecuted for over half a century. The Christians in China today have not come by their faith easily. They have had to sacrifice for it. Many have given their life to believe in Jesus. As a result, a Biblical world view is very strong with Chinese believers. They see everything through the lens of the Bible; the Word of God shapes their morals, political understanding, and social ethics.

More than anything, their Biblical world view impacts their insatiable desire for missions. Today, China has more missionaries living and working in unreached nations than any other nation on earth. That number is only expected to increase.

Back to Jerusalem is not just a mission organization in China. It is a universal vision among the members of the underground house church to preach the Gospel to all the nations between China and Jerusalem and see the fulfillment of Matthew 24:14.

However, the vision of Back to Jerusalem is bigger than China. It is a vision that is given to all Christians. If you would like to join the vision, find out more by clicking here.

Dr. Eugene Bach is a known trouble-maker with an active imagination and sinful past. He has a PhD, but is not a real doctor, so please do not call for him during a medical emergency on an airplane when someone is having a heart attack. Eugene started working for Back to Jerusalem in the year 2000 after a backroom deal involving Chinese spies, the NRA, Swiss bankers, and a small group of Apostolic Christians that only baptize in Jesus’ name. He spends most of his time in closed countries attempting to topple governments by proclaiming the name of Jesus and not taking showers. From time-to-time he pretends to be a writer. He is not good at it, but everyone around him tries to humor him.
