During a Monday morning call this week, a BTJ partner from Iran shared the most shocking prayer request when she said Iranians are afraid of a peace deal.
“Iranians are asking for prayer that the Islamic regime of Iran does not stay in power,” The BTJ partner said during a meeting over the phone. The BTJ partner cannot be named for security reasons, but continued saying, “Iranians would rather the war continue than for the [Islamic] regime to remain in power. Our greatest fear is that a peace deal will be reached with the regime remaining in power.”
Since the Israeli and American attacks on Iran started on February 28 of this year, the Iranian church has been praying for an end to the regime, but it has become clear to everyone that the Ayatollahs would rather see the death of their own people than lose power.
This was the exact opposite of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the former ruler of Iran, who was overthrown in 1979. When riots broke out and people were being killed in the streets of Tehran, Brother Abdull remembered the scene. He was providing security at the royal residence of the Shah the night he decided to leave Iran.
According to Brother Abdull, when one of the top generals promised to put down the riots by killing civilians, the Shah stopped him saying, “No! We have no right to kill Iranian people. Our military was trained to fight the enemy outside of the country, not to fight our own people. A kingdom built on the blood of my own people? What kind of kingdom do I have? What kind of king threatens people with death in order to get them to follow him?”
This is the exact opposite of the Islamic leaders in Iran today, where the Ayatollahs are guilty of killing more of their own people than all the bombs dropped by America and Israel so far.
