How Christians Can Help in Gaza

Christians around the world hurt when they see the pain that women and children in Gaza are going through. Though most Christians understand that innocent civilians are being held hostage by Hamas, they cannot deny the suffering they are seeing on the ground and wonder how to help.

Although Christians want to help the people in Gaza who are suffering, they are also painfully aware that so much international aid to Gaza has been abused and used to support terrorism. Christians want to provide aid without helping terrorists.

BTJ has been working in the Middle East for many years, including Israel, and the one thing that we have learned as a general guide is that large government entities are rarely effective in helping the most vulnerable. To make a difference in a place like Gaza, it is wise to do two things – look for an organization that is smaller and focuses on the Gospel message.

Small Christian charities often make a significant impact by being responsive, community-focused, and having less overhead. They are much more effective than cumbersome government entities like the United Nations.

Hamas has been able to build up their power structure by fleecing international aid. The resources have been diverted from the people who need it and into the hands of terrorists who focus on genocide against the Jewish people.

Supporting small Christian charities can be a powerful way to help the vulnerable without aiding terrorism.

This month, while many government entities sit on the sidelines complaining that they cannot get into Gaza, there are several Christian charities that are helping. While BTJ does not currently have any projects in Gaza, we are praying for the situation there every day. A brief search will give a list of many different small Christian organizations to support in Gaza. One such organization is Samaritan’s Purse.

Though BTJ does not work directly with Samaritan’s Purse and are not connected to their work in Gaza, we have carried out many projects with them over the years and there are very few charities that have the integrity and Christian mission focus as much as Samaritan’s Purse.

For six years, BTJ worked with Samaritan’s Purse to hand out hundreds of thousands of Christmas gifts and got a first-hand view into their leadership and operations. It is one of the most trustworthy organizations out there.

Three days ago, Samaritan’s Purse flew out a 757 and DC-8 cargo plane with over 88,500 pounds of nutritional peanut-based food product packets for families in Gaza. These are their sixth and seventh airlifts in just the last month. Very few organizations are able to provide food and supplies to the people in Gaza, without aiding Hamas, like Samaritan’s Purse is able to.
