Here Is Why Iranian Christians Fear a Peace Plan

US President Trump has announced that a possible peace plan with Iran has “been largely negotiated” and the Strait of Hormuz will be opened soon.

While most of the world is hoping for some kind of plan to end the war with Iran, the current reports do not look promising.  From early reports, many of which are often inaccurate, the negotiations would start a clock of at least 30 days for continued negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, but already, Iran is saying the Strait of Hormuz will remain under terrorist threats by Iran.

More details are set to be revealed in the coming days, but one thing is certain for the church in Iran and that is the belligerent Islamic regime is still in power. For Christians, that means that persecution will be worse than ever if they are left in power.

BTJ’s Christian partners in Iran have repeatedly voiced their concerns about this exact outcome.

The regime has no real military force left. They have been completely humiliated. The Iranian Air Force is gone. The Iranian Navy is gone. The Iranian air defense system is gone. The only defense the Iranian military has is to use the threat of terrorist attacks on civilians by bombing hotels, banks, housing areas or using small boats to drop mines on civilian ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Imagine if a small group of Islamic terrorists had their own country.  That is the state of Iran right now.  Even without a traditional military, they hold the world hostage with threats against civilians.

The current regime clings to a suicidal Islamic ideology. They would rather see their people die than give up power and if the Ayatollahs remain in power at the end of a proposed peace deal, it will undoubtedly lead to a bloody war path of revenge to compensate for the humiliating military defeat they suffered at the hands of the “Great Satan” (America) and the “Little Satan” (Israel).

Terrorism is the only card the Iranian regime has left to play.

Iranian Christians on the ground have expressed to BTJ that they believe they will most likely be the first to see the violence. Though the military has been destroyed, the Islamic police and ground forces are still in power.

They are the only ones with guns.

The Iranian Church is currently in an impossible situation. War has made life in Iran unbearable and a peace plan that leaves the Iranian regime in power might be even worse.

Please continue to pray for the situation for Christians in Iran.
