Former prisoner and underground house church leader, Pastor Ezra Jin, met with former President George W. Bush yesterday at the Bush Institute in Texas.
Pastor Jin was the pastor of the Zion Church in Beijing, which grew into more than 10,000 people. In October 2025, Pastor Jin and over 30 of his fellow Christian leaders were imprisoned by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for broadcasting sermons online after officials shut down the church’s physical location in 2018.
After a state visit to China by President Donald Trump this year, Pastor Jin was finally released and allowed to travel to the US to be with his family.
Pastor Jin and President Bush discussed Pastor Jin’s family, his imprisonment, and the house church movement in China.
President Bush has used his voice to raise awareness of the persecution against Christians in China. Several years ago, President Bush also spent time with Brother Yun and listened to his testimony. During his time with Pastor Jin, President Bush spoke about his concern for prisoners of conscience in China, including some he painted in his new book, The Call of Freedom, where he presents portraits of Pastor Wang Yi, Gulshan Abbas, Joshua Wong, and Jimmy Lai.
