EASILY the Best Movie of 2021

I am not an extreme cinephile or even an educated movie buff, but I do so love to watch a good movie. I can’t easily remember the names of famous actors, or even correctly recall the titles of movies that I enjoyed in the past, but I do appreciate films for their existential meanings and often carry the message of a good movie with me for my entire life.

If I really like a movie, I will watch it over and over and over again.

Unfortunately for me, great movies in 2021 have been few and far between. During various quarantines over the last two years I have had more time to watch movies than at any other time in my life, but unfortunately, there are not many good movies to choose from, so I have been forced to go back and re-watch old classics.

However, a new movie has just been released that I would argue is the best movie of the year! It is an independent movie, so it is not yet available on Netflix or Amazon Prime. In fact, I have only found one place for download.

Here is the trailer:

The Most Reluctant Convert is one of the most profound and entertaining movies I have ever watched. I do not often recommend movies (mostly because the movies that I enjoy are not for general Christian consumption), but The Most Reluctant Convert is a rare find.

The movie is a retelling of the profound journey of C.S. Lewis’ life. The movie can really be summarised as a masterfully orchestrated monologue using C.S. Lewis’ own words. It is provocative, intellectual, spiritual, and gleefully mischievous all at the same time.

The movie was so good, that I watched it twice – back-to-back.

In my opinion, The Most Reluctant Convert easily wins the best movie of 2021.

Dr. Eugene Bach is a known trouble-maker with an active imagination and sinful past. He has a PhD, but is not a real doctor, so please do not call for him during a medical emergency on an airplane when someone is having a heart attack. Eugene started working for Back to Jerusalem in the year 2000 after a backroom deal involving Chinese spies, the NRA, Swiss bankers, and a small group of Apostolic Christians that only baptize in Jesus’ name. He spends most of his time in closed countries attempting to topple governments by proclaiming the name of Jesus and not taking showers. From time-to-time he pretends to be a writer. He is not good at it, but everyone around him tries to humor him.

I heartily agree! My husband and I rented it today and watched with our 4 sons who have reveled in the Chronicles of Narnia since last Christmas’ gift if Focus on the Family Radio Theatre.
Was so struck with the heart of God towards him, completely surprising him through fantasy via George McDonald, among others. A masterful movie!
