Two of our Chinese teams have started emergency help in the flood-stricken areas of Nepal. It is still early days, and with so much infrastructure destroyed, the government and large NGOs are struggling to provide the systematic and comprehensive help that is needed, so our teams help where they can.
So far, they have found 26 wandering children who do not know what has happened to their parents or families and whose homes have washed away in the floods. Our teams are helping to take care of them until, in the best-case scenario, they will be able to reconnect with someone from their family, or until there are government systems in place to home these disaster orphans.
One little girl has been severely traumatised after she lost her parents and siblings. She was saved because she was at school, and the building was on slightly higher ground. She has not been able to speak yet, but only cries.
As well as taking care of these children, our teams are focusing on getting emergency aid to the villages. The biggest needs are:
- Drinking water
- Basic food, such as rice, oil, beans and salt
- Tents and blankets
- Solar charges and solar lights
We were able to send 10,000 USD over from our emergency fund, which was matched by a church in New York. So, in total we can send 20,000 USD to our teams. With a disaster of this scale, whatever we can raise we can use. We will keep our emergency fund open for donations for Nepal until further notice.
Please pray for our team members. The river water is polluted with sewage and dead bodies. The smell is hard to cope with. Pray for their health, both physically and emotionally as they have to process so many traumatic stories.
As they pray for and listen to the victims, pray that the comfort of God will flow through them. Pray also for the children, that God will provide for them a safe place to rebuild their lives.
