Both China and Vietnam announced emergency plans to close businesses, shut down public transport, stop all flights, and evacuate more than half a million people as the two nations braced for an intensifying Typhoon Kajiki.
China has issued a Red Alert – the highest on China’s warning system. Typhoon winds as high as 180kph are expected to pass through today according to China’s weather forecaster.
Vietnam Airlines cancelled 22 flights as did China’s Sanya Airport.
Government officials in China and Vietnam are planning for worst case scenarios and BTJ missionaries are monitoring the situation very closely. BTJ has missionaries working in both Vietnam and China who are ready to provide emergency disaster relief if needed.
