Afghanistan is looking more and more like North Korea every day, where normal everyday citizens can be arrested for the smallest infractions.
Last week, the Afghan Taliban’s dreaded morality police arrested four young men for dressing like characters from the British TV series Peaky Blinders.
The men were detained in the western Afghan city of Herat for promoting “unIslamic culture,” after it was discovered they were dressing like their favorite characters on a TV show.
Asghar Husaini, Jalil Yaqoobi, Ashore Akbari, and Daud Rasa are members of a group known as the Thomas Shelby Group, a small club that allowed the men to have some fun amidst the horrid sufferings of living in Afghanistan.
Over the past month, the men were pictured wearing flat caps, suits, gloves, and long trenchcoats. The attire resembled the period costumery of Peaky Blinders, which depicts the era following World War I and seemed to be a small source of joy for the locals, but the Taliban requires that everyone dress in Islamic attire resembling the days of the Prophet Muhammad.
All the men were arrested and it can only be imagined what suffering they are enduring inside the prison.
