Ancient Puzzle Locks in China Unlike Anything You Have Ever Seen

In the west, it is common to have a lock on the door to a home, a car, a bike, and even a computer. It is often opened with a very simple flat key, but in ancient China things were a bit different.

Over 2,000 years ago, before the birth of Jesus Christ, ancient Chinese locksmiths were making open-keyhole puzzle locks that still baffle the minds of modern civilizations. These puzzle locks were very tricky to open. These fascinating locks have boxed keys with bends and notches that are unlike any key anywhere in the world with different topological structures, strange structural characteristics and odd, confusing multi-stage movements.

What is even more baffling is that these skillful mechanical devices were made by humble locksmiths who didn’t label them with their name or company. Even today, we have no clue who these creative and unique engineers were or what inspired them. There are no records or handbooks telling us how they made these locks or why.

Each of these puzzle locks have special designs, use different ideas that strengthen the internal structure and appearance, and were developed with an extremely high degree of difficulty. Many believe these puzzle locks were used as educational toys as well as security, helping the development of creative minds.

The secret to these locks is to watch people who understand them. Observation is the ‘key.’

In modern times, we see that ministry in China can be a bit like these ancient puzzle-locks. Not much is written about the underground house church, what is known confounds many experts, and most educated scholars and research groups have devoted themselves to no avail, because of the lack of written material available to understand and study, but the key is to observe those that are engaged in active ministry today.

To help understand some of the things about the underground house church that are largely unknown to the rest of the world, we have launched Underground Publishing House. Our publishing house is a small group that focuses mainly on two distinct things – providing the world with unknown testimonies that tell the story of how God is moving in nations that are closed to the Gospel and secondly, to bring old forgotten writings back to life so that we can better understand the nature of closed nations today from the voices of yesterday.

Underground Publishing selects only a few books to publish per year that help reveal the mysteries of closed nations through the testimonies of a few pioneers of the faith. To learn more about those books click on the link here.

  1. Hey Mr.Bach,
I read your bio, “Apostolic Christians that only baptize in Jesus’ name”
are you still baptizing In Jesus’ name or how do you handle now this revelation?
sometimes I get very religious with that and it quenches the Holy Spirit.

    blessings

    1. Hi Gabriel,
Eugene’s bio is written entirely in jest and sarcasm, none of which should be taken with any seriousness.
      Blessings!
