Actor John Cleese Blasts Media Silence Over Palm Sunday Slaughter of African Christians

English actor John Cleese, known for his role in Monty Python and Fawlty Towers, has been a lone voice among the world’s most well-known actors to highlight the ongoing genocidal attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

“It looks rather as though Black Lives Don’t Matter,” Cleese lamented on X, chastising the pearl clutchers from the 2020 riots in the US while completely ignoring the weekly annihilation of African Christians.

In one of the bloodiest Palm Sundays on record, Muslims in Nigeria slaughtered 53 Christians and barely a peep was made by the world community. The gruesome attack against unarmed Christian women and children took place on Palm Sunday evening in Ungwan Rukuba, a community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state, Nigeria. The Muslims reportedly opened fire on unarmed Christians shouting “Allahu Akbar.” Eyewitnesses claim the attack was planned and coordinated by Boko Haram.

John Cleese is pointing out the blatant apathy towards Africans when they happen to be Christians. The hypocrisy is especially highlighted when John Cleese challenges Black Lives Matter in his post, an organization that protests violence against ‘Black Lives’ while completely ignoring genocide against African Christians. His post is made more powerful by the evidence.

Current data shows that anywhere between 14-30 unarmed black men die in the entire nation of America from police shootings per year (yes you read that correctly) compared to more than 10,000 unarmed African Christians with more than 3 million African Christians displaced by the violence against them last year alone!

Keep in mind these numbers are ONLY for Nigeria. The population of the US is much bigger than Nigeria, so the percentage of deaths in Nigeria is far higher. Those numbers increase dramatically when the genocide against unarmed black Christians in other African nations like Sudan, Congo, Chad, Eritrea and Somalia are added.

This week, BTJ is working with the children who have been orphaned by the Palm Sunday massacre and is now providing food and emergency supplies.

The situation is extremely dire for Christians in Nigeria. Please continue to pray and share with other believers so that the church does not remain silent during this time.
