The trial of 12 church workers from Gold Lamp Church started on April 8th, 2025 in Linfen, Shanxi Province with unusually strict security measures. The twelve church workers from Gold Lamp Church have spent more than three years in wrongful detention on fraud charges and are now facing trial under intense governmental pressure and constraints.
A robust security operation including road controls and multiple police and traffic officers surrounded the Yaodu District People’s Court area. An extensive security operation similar to threat response protocols was established to block Christians and family members from accessing the courthouse.
Before the trial began, authorities set up surveillance operations which included drone usage and non-stop observation of principal entry points. Local officials warned Gold Lamp Church followers against going to the courthouse while they discovered strangers observing their homes and were advised to stay away from the trial.
The Yaodu District Court decided to divide the case earlier to speed up the legal process. The trial of ten people commenced on April 8 and the court scheduled Pastor Wang Xiaoguang and Evangelist Yang Rongli to face trial separately on April 17.
This trial represents ongoing church persecution which brings to mind the notorious “9.13 Linfen Case” from 2009. A government crackdown during the event resulted in church members being attacked violently while church buildings were demolished, followed by harsh legal penalties for leaders who faced long prison terms and huge fines.
Facing these challenges Gold Lamp Church released a heartfelt public prayer request. The church calls on believers and supporters to devoutly pray for the 12 persecuted pastors and co-workers. The church appeals to divine strength and protection for its members to maintain their powerful testimony despite such difficult conditions. The church emphasizes the importance of divine wisdom to direct the legal teams representing these Christians as they strive for a favorable court decision.
