11 Years Later, More Than 2,800 ISIS Sex Slaves Still in Captivity, 1 Recently Rescued in Gaza

In August 2014, the world witnessed genocide, as ISIS invaded the Yazidi and Christian areas of Iraq, systematically killing men and boys and taking women and children as slaves.

More than 6,000 women and children were taken captive and many of them were sold on open markets like the one in the video here.

What a lot of Christians do not realize, is that 11 years later, more than 2,800 women are still missing. For them, the violence of genocide didn’t end. It is more than a memory. It is a daily reality. Many of the women have been sold multiple times to Muslim men that beat them, rape them, torture them and hold them captive. They still live with the pain and suffering of their families members being slaughtered and systematically killed.

But unlike 11 years ago when several efforts were made to free the victims of ISIS, today there is no longer any large coordinated efforts to rescue those still missing and in captivity. Thousands of women still live in unthinkable daily horror and need continued prayer.

Not all hope is gone. Some women are still being rescued.

Fawzia Amin Sido was only 11 years old when she was kidnapped by ISIS and sold as a sex slave. She was taken to Syria where she was eventually sold five times until she was taken captive by a Palestinian man. Fawzia was raped repeatedly while in captivity and gave birth to two children.

Fawzia and her children were eventually taken to Gaza where she was freed by Israeli troops 8 months ago, after her Hamas captor was forced to flee the area. In the video below, Fawzia is shown being reunited with her family.

Fawzia’s rescue highlights the little known link between Hamas and ISIS and raises the question of how many more women like Fawzia are being held captive in Palestinian territories and surrounding areas.

Even though the genocide of ISIS 11 years ago is a distant memory for some, it is still a daily reality of many. Christians are encouraged to pray for the women that are still being held captive.
